Ingredients:
  • Base:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine


  • Filling:
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  • Frosting:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 oz pkg cream cheese, softened

  • Steps:
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees
  • Combine base ingredients
  • Mix until crumbly.
  • Press into ungreased 11x7 or 9x9 pan.
  • Bake at 375 for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.


  • In medium saucepan, combine dates, sugar, & margarine.
  • Cook over medium heat until mixture boils, stirring constantly.
  • Simmer 3 minutes.
  • Blend about 1/4 cup hot mixture into beaten egg.
  • Return to sauce pan.
  • Cook until mixture bubbles, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in rice cereal, nuts, and vanilla extract.
  • Spread over baked crust.
  • Cool.


  • Combine frosting ingredients
  • Beat at low speed until smooth.
  • Spread over filling.
  • Cut into bars.
