1/2 cup additional filling using your choice of onion, garlic, bell pepper, sliced black olives, sliced mushrooms, diced tomaotes, etcetera.
1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese or mixture of mozzarella and swiss
2 tablespoons butter, melted
To Make Dough: Place liquid ingredients in the bread machine, followed by dry ingredients, add yeast in the center last. Select Dough cycle. After cycle is completed, let the dough rest for 10 minutes then roll out dough on a lightly floured surface.
While dough is in the machine, brown sausage for about 8 to 10 minutes in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat and reserve.
Saute additional filling vegetables (except olives and tomatoes) until tender crisp, reserve.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Shape dough into a 16 inch by 10 inch rectangle. Transfer to a lightly oiled cookie sheet. Alternately place dough on parchment paper on dry cookie sheet.
Spoon pizza sauce lengthwise down the center of the dough.
Place the browned sausage and the cheese over the sauce.
Make 45 degree diagonal cuts 1 1/2 inches apart down each long side of the dough rectangle, cutting to within 1/2 inch of the filling which is in the center of the dough.
Alternately place the cut strips of dough over the filling, attaching each edge to the dough after sealing it with water.
Brush top of calzone with melted butter.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown. About five minutes before it is done baking, brush it very lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with a touch of Parmesan cheese (optional).
Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with additional pizza sauce for dipping.
